SPC alarms need governance, not volume

2025-07-11 · Lee Ji-ho

A quality dashboard can technically run many SPC rules at once. That does not mean it should. If the first deployment sends fifty alarms per shift, engineers learn to dismiss the system before it has a chance to prove useful.

A better pattern is to start with a critical-to-quality characteristic, one baseline and two rule families. Review false positives after two weeks, decide which alarms prompted action, and remove the rules that created noise. Governance is a monthly practice, not a one-time configuration screen.

Quality Drift Sentinel was built around that operating model. The rule library is broad, but the implementation path is narrow by design. The module becomes more useful when the plant chooses fewer, sharper signals and assigns a named owner to each rule change.
